അമാനുഷികമായ രചനാ പാടവത്തിലൂടെ ഒരിക്കല്‍ കൂടി ലോകത്തെ വിസ്മയിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ് അരുന്ധതി റോയ് എന്ന എഴുത്തുകാരി. 'ദി മിനിസ്ട്രി ഓഫ് അറ്റ്‌മോസ്റ്റ് ഹാപ്പിനെസ്സ്' എന്ന പുതിയ നോവലുമായി അവര്‍ രംഗത്തെത്തിയത് ഉദ്വോഗത്തോടെയാണ് സാഹിത്യ ലോകം ഉറ്റു നോക്കുന്നത്.
പഴയ ദില്ലിയിലെ ഇടതിങ്ങിയ വീടുകള്‍ മുതല്‍ പുതിയ നഗരങ്ങളിലെ പാതകളിലൂടെയും കശ്മീരിലെ താഴ്‌വരകളിലൂടെയും പര്‍വ്വതങ്ങളിലൂടെയുമുള്ള ഒരു സഞ്ചാരമാണ് ഈ കൃതി. ശ്വസിക്കുന്ന വായു, ജാതി, സ്‌നേഹം, മൃഗങ്ങള്‍, കശ്മീര്‍, നഗരങ്ങള്‍ അങ്ങനെ എഴുത്തുകാരിക്കു ചുറ്റുമുള്ള ലോകത്തെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള ആഖ്യാനം. 1997ല്‍ ബുക്കര്‍ പുരസ്‌കാരം ലഭിച്ച ഗോഡ് ഓഫ് സ്‌മോള്‍ തിംഗ്‌സ് എന്ന ആദ്യ നോവല്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച് ഇരുപത് വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കുശേഷമാണ് അരുന്ധതി ഈ നോവല്‍ എഴുതിയത്. 2017ലെ മാന്‍ ബുക്കര്‍ പുരസ്‌കാരത്തിനായുള്ള പ്രാഥമിക പട്ടികയില്‍ ഇടംപിടിച്ച രണ്ടാം നോവലിന്റെ മലയാളം പരിഭാഷ ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഡി.സി ബുക്‌സ് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. 'അത്യാനന്ദത്തിന്റെ ദൈവവൃത്തി' എന്ന പേരില്‍ ജോണി എം.എല്‍ ആണ് ഈ കൃതി വിവര്‍ത്തനം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത്.
അഞ്ജും എന്നുപേരുള്ള ഒരു ഹിജഡയുടെ ജീവിത ഘട്ടങ്ങളാണ് ഈ നോവലിലെ ഇതിവൃത്തം. ഇതിനിടയില്‍ കടന്നു പോകുന്ന പഴയ ദില്ലിയുടെ ജീവന സ്പന്ദനങ്ങള്‍ അമാനുഷികമായ ഒരു വശ്യതയോടെയാണ് നേവലിസ്റ്റ് വിവരിക്കുന്നത്. ദൈനന്ദിനതകളില്‍നിന്ന് ഒഴിവാക്കപ്പെട്ട് ശവകുടീരങ്ങളില്‍ വീടുകള്‍ കെട്ടി ജീവിക്കുന്ന പ്രാന്തവത്കൃതരുടെ ജീവിതാഖ്യാനങ്ങള്‍കൂടിയാണ് 'അത്യാനന്ദത്തിന്റെ പ്രേഷിതവൃത്തിയില്‍' നാം കാണുന്നത്. ഗുജറാത്തിലെ കലാപത്തില്‍ അകപ്പെട്ടു നടുറോഡില്‍ കൊല്ലപ്പെടുന്ന സാക്കിര്‍ മിയാനിന്റെ അവസാനനോട്ടം കലാപത്തിന്റെ മൊത്തം യുക്തിയിലേക്കോ യുക്തിരാഹിത്യത്തിലേക്കോ ആണ് നീളുന്നത്. എന്ത് തന്നെയായാലും അത്യാനന്ദത്തിന്റെ ദൈവവൃത്തി മലയാള നോവല്‍ രംഗത്ത് പുതിയ ചര്‍ച്ചക്ക് തുടക്കമിടുമെന്നാണ് കരുതുന്നത്.

The literary world has waited two decades for Arundhati Roy to release a second novel since her 1997 debut, The God of Small Things – but The Ministry of Utmost Happiness proves worth the wait.
The Ministry of Utmost Happiness  reveals Delhi-set narrative that features a large cast of characters and addresses some of the darkest and most violent incidents in modern Indian history, including the 2002 Godhra train attack and the ongoing fighting in Kashmir. Featuring a diverse group of characters from across Indian society, including a trans woman (or hijra), an architect who clashes with society, and a landlord with a second life in the intelligence services, The Ministry of Utmost Happiness explores the cultural clashes and interpersonal conflicts that drive modern Indian society. Critically acclaimed, although it did not achieve the immediate success of Roy's debut The God of Small Things, it was long-listed for two major literary awards—The Hindu Literary Prize and the Man Booker Prize.
Anjum is a major character of the book who is Muslim and a hijra. On her visit to a Gujarati shrine, Anjum gets caught in a massacre of Hindu pilgrims and subsequent government reprisals against Muslims. She is anxious about the future of her own community, especially the new generation. She is born as Aftab, the long-awaited son of Jahanara Begum and Mulaqat Ali.
